Where Check Company UK Gets Its Data
Check Company UK uses public company information made available by Companies House. This page explains the source, the API resources used by the service, how the information is processed and the limits you should understand when reviewing a company report.

Our Primary Source Is Companies House
Companies House is the UK registrar of companies. It receives, records and publishes company information required under UK company law and makes public register information available through its online services and public data API.
Check Company UK connects to the Companies House public data API to retrieve relevant company information when a user performs a search. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Companies House or the UK Government.
The service is designed to make selected public register information easier to search and review, not to replace or modify the official Companies House record.

Profile

Company Profile
Provides the core company record, including company number, status, incorporation information, company type, registered office and related profile fields.
Officers
/company/{number}/officers
Company Officers
Used to review directors and other company officers attached to the selected company, including professional appointment information returned by Companies House.
Control
/persons-with-significant-control
Persons with Significant Control
Used to retrieve PSC records for the company where such information is available through the public Companies House API.
Filings
/filing-history
Filing History
Used to retrieve recent filing-history items and provide context around documents and events recorded for the company.

Requested where the company profile indicates relevant charge information, such as registered charges or mortgages.
Insolvency

Requested where the company profile indicates insolvency history and used to present the insolvency cases returned for that company.

Used by Director Search when a user knows a person's name rather than the company. It returns matching Companies House officer records.

Used after an officer is selected to retrieve the companies and professional appointments associated with that Companies House officer identifier.

What Information We May Present
Company Identity
Registered company name, company number, company type and incorporation information.
Company Status
The status returned on the Companies House company profile, such as active, dissolved or another supported status.
Registered Office
The registered office information returned for the company itself, where available in the public company profile.
Business Activity
SIC codes and other company-profile fields that describe the registered nature of the company's activities.
Officers & Control
Professional company appointments and PSC information returned through the relevant Companies House resources.
Filings, Charges & Insolvency
Selected filing history, registered charges and company insolvency information where the relevant public resources are available.
Director Search
How We Limit Personal Data in Director Search
Professional Appointment Information
Director Search is intentionally limited to information needed to review professional company appointments: officer name, appointment count, company name, company number, company status, role, appointment date and resignation date where available.
Personal Details We Deliberately Exclude
The Director Search interface does not display date of birth, nationality, country of residence, correspondence address or residential address.

Public Register Data Has Important Limits
Companies House itself states that it does not check the accuracy of information filed on the register. Public register information should therefore be treated as information submitted and recorded through the official system, not as an independent guarantee that every fact is correct.
Check Company UK does not independently verify each filing, officer appointment, registered address, PSC record, charge or insolvency entry before displaying information returned by the Companies House API.
Information can also change over time as companies submit new filings or Companies House updates the register.

How the Data Reaches Your Report
Server-to-Server Request
Check Company UK sends the relevant request from the application server to the Companies House public data API.
Structured API Response
Companies House returns structured data for the requested resource, subject to the information available for that company or officer record.

The application selects and formats relevant fields into a report designed to be easier for a general user to understand.
